Gurukul Foundation – Winter Warmth: Daily Gau Seva
Under the campaign “Winter Warmth: Daily Gau Seva”, Gurukul Foundation is dedicated to protecting cows from the harsh cold months. Many of our cows are injured, abandoned, stray, old, or weak, and winter becomes especially painful for them. Through this campaign, we treat every cow as family, deserving warmth, safety, and loving care.
Our first focus in winter is providing warm and safe shelter. The Gaushala sheds are covered and protected from cold winds, fog, and winter rain. Extra dry bedding, such as straw and mats, is arranged so that cows can rest comfortably on insulated floors. We also maintain open sunlit spaces where they can soak gentle winter sunlight for natural warmth and better immunity.
Nutrition becomes even more important in cold weather. Through this campaign, each cow receives energy-rich, warm and nutritious food including green fodder, dry fodder, mineral mixtures, and winter-specific supplements like gud, choker and special mash for weak and senior cows. Fresh, clean water is made available throughout the day, and extra care is taken so that no cow has to struggle for food or water in the cold.
Winter often worsens old injuries, joint pain, respiratory issues and infections. Our veterinary team conducts regular check-ups, vaccinations and timely treatments, with a special watch on fragile, injured and senior cows. A separate infirmary area with warmer bedding is kept ready so that sick or recovering cows can rest peacefully under close observation and gentle seva.
Cleanliness and a calm atmosphere are maintained even more strictly in winters. Sheds are cleaned many times a day and dung is used for organic manure and traditional products, supporting sustainability. The sattvic, peaceful environment of the Gaushala allows devotees to offer winter special seva like sponsoring fodder, warm bedding, medicines, and a day’s winter meal for Gau Mata on birthdays, anniversaries or festivals.
Through Winter Warmth: Daily Gau Seva, Gurukul Foundation’s Gaushala becomes a true winter sanctuary for our desi cows and rescued animals. Every donation and every act of seva helps us ensure that in these cold months, no cow under our care sleeps hungry, shivers without support, or feels unloved. Together, we can wrap Gau Mata in warmth, compassion and dignity this winter.
