Diwali Annadaan: Seva for People and Holy Men
Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh — Annadaan seva during Diwali near temple areas, ghats, shelters, and public spaces across the city.
This Diwali, Gurukul Foundation is organizing a compassionate Annadaan campaign devoted to nourishing hungry people and holy men through wholesome, sattvik meals. When lamps are lit and homes glow with hope, our kitchens will glow with selfless service—freshly cooked food, clean water, and dignified distribution. The spirit of Annadaan teaches that the purest gift is the one that ends hunger, restores strength, and brings gentle warmth to those who depend on the kindness of society.
Our teams will set up community kitchens and distribution counters near temples, shelters, and public spaces where daily wage earners, elderly citizens, travelers, and ascetics gather. Volunteers will prepare simple, nutritious items such as rice, dal, seasonal vegetables, khichdi, puri-sabzi, and halwa, along with safe drinking water and fruit. The food will be served respectfully, with attention to hygiene, portion balance, and the individual needs of each recipient.
Holy men—sadhus, saints, and spiritual seekers—often sustain themselves through alms. During festival days, crowds can be overwhelming, and access to steady meals becomes uncertain. Our Annadaan ensures they receive calm, orderly service: a seated area, a clean plate, and unhurried time to eat. By honoring those who dedicate their lives to prayer and discipline, we also honor the values that Diwali celebrates—light over darkness, care over neglect, generosity over indifference.
Every plate is a promise: to relieve hunger today and to inspire consistent support tomorrow. Your contribution helps source grains, pulses, spices, vegetables, cooking fuel, disposable eco-friendly plates, and water arrangements. It sustains kitchen helpers, transport, and safe storage. Above all, it transforms a festival custom into a daily practice of compassion. When we feed a person, we feed courage; when we feed a holy man, we feed devotion; when we feed both, we feed hope itself.
We follow a clear process. Procurement teams buy fresh ingredients from trusted vendors. Cooks maintain cleanliness, correct temperatures, and sattvik preparation. Servers wear gloves, keep hands sanitized, and guide orderly queues. Distribution times are announced in advance so beneficiaries can arrive without rush. Leftovers, if any, are redirected promptly to nearby shelters to ensure nothing goes to waste. Transparency and accountability guide every rupee and every meal.
You can participate by sponsoring a set number of plates, offering ingredients in kind, volunteering in the kitchen, or assisting during service. Local businesses can underwrite meal slots or transport. Students and families can join as on-ground helpers, bringing not just labor but cheerful energy that makes the experience humane. Each role matters, because Annadaan is a collective vow—many hands preparing, many hearts sharing, and many lives strengthening.
Diwali is a reminder to spread light where it is dim. A warm meal becomes a lamp in a weary day. The Gurukul Foundation Annadaan campaign invites you to kindle that lamp. Support us so we can feed more people and serve more holy men with dignity. Let this season mark the start of a brighter habit: regular giving, mindful service, and the steady joy of seeing someone eat in peace.
Join us, share the message, and make Annadaan your family’s festival tradition. Together, we can ensure that the fragrance of Diwali is carried not only by incense and sweets, but also by the steam of nourishing food, the calm of satisfied smiles, and the quiet blessing that follows every act of selfless seva.
